Mitt Romney: Hunter, Marcher, and Pro-Choice Pol Mitt Romney: “I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I’ve been a hunter pretty much all my life,” he said this week in Keene, N.H., to a man sporting a National Rifle Association cap. But the reality is: …the former Massachusetts governor’s hunting experience is limited to two trips at the bookends of his 60 years: as a 15-year-old, when he hunted rabbits with his cousins on a ranch in Idaho, and last year, when he shot quail on a fenced game preserve in Georgia. Last year’s trip was an outing with major donors to the Republican Governors Association, which Romney headed at the time. An aide said Wednesday that Romney was not trying to mislead anyone, although he confirmed Romney had been hunting only on those occasions in his life. ---------------------- Mitt Romney, in his "acclaimed" speech about religion, claimed he saw his father, Gov. George Romney of Michigan, march with Martin Luther King. Romney was forced to backtrack and claim he meant "saw" in a figurative sense after a newspaper investigated and found he was lying. ---------------------- Mitt Romney reported that he had been given the endorsement of the National Rifle Association when, in fact, that was untrue. ---------------------- In a 2006 interview, Romney declared: "I've never called myself pro-choice." However, in a 1994 debate with Sen. Edward Kennedy, the erstwhile candidate said: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time when my Mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years that we should sustain and support it, and I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." If that isn't pro-choice, what is? |
